Signs You May Need Interior Drain Tile
If you’re experiencing water issues in your basement, an interior drain tile system might be the solution. This system involves installing perforated pipes below the slab to direct water to a sump pump, effectively collecting water from beneath the basement floor and around the walls. The pipes are surrounded by washed gravel and drain tile to ensure proper drainage. After installation, any removed concrete is re-poured.

Yes, even if you don’t currently have any water intrusion issues, Arrow Foundation Repair can install an interior drain tile system to help reduce the risk of future water problems in your home or property. Yes, installing interior drain tile involves cutting a section of your basement floor, typically around 12 inches from the wall. We then dig down to the footing and install the drain tile, followed by replacing any concrete removed during the process.
Most times, the water from the interior drain tile is directed to a new sump pump, which will be part of the system put in during your drain tile installation. Alternatively, it can be connected to an existing sump pump. In some cases, elevation and grading of the lot allows the water to drain without a sump pump.
If you have questions about drain tile installation in Shawnee and the KC Metro area, Arrow Foundation Repair has seen it all and we’re happy to answer any questions.
Once we’ve completed your drain tile installation, it requires minimal, if any, maintenance. We recommend checking the operation of the sump pump before the rainy season, and also a few times throughout the year.
You can call us to send a tech out or you can check the sump pump yourself by lifting the float on the sump pump to activate the pump, or by adding water to the sump pit to an appropriate level that the sump pump activates.
Both interior and exterior drain tile systems are effective but suited for different situations. If we are already excavating the area for other repairs like piers or wall reconstruction, we’ll also install an exterior drain tile system along with waterproofing and gravel backfilling, as it’s easier to access. However, if we’re not excavating, installing interior drain tile with a backer board is typically less disruptive and more cost-effective for waterproofing.
